36EL1835, Oklahoma:

"I THINK THE CLUB IS A GREAT IDEA!

SORRY TO HAVE TAKEN SO LONG TO RETURN THE REGISTRATION FORMS. I KNOW OF ANOTHER 36EL, BUT I ONLY SEE ITS OWNER AT A SWAP MEET EACH YEAR IN SEPTEMBER.

I CAME INTO 36EL1835 AND 36EL2450 WHEN I BOUGHT OUT A

CUSTOM MOTORCYCLE SHOP. THE SETS OF CASES WERE IN THE LOT. I HAVE TITLES FOR BOTH BIKES. BOTH ENGINES CAME FROM TEXAS. I DON'T KNOW MUCH MORE OF THE HISTORY OF EITHER. I GOT THEM BOTH IN 1976.

36EL1835 IS UP AND RUNNING. IT'S PUT TOGETHER MOSTLY OUT OF PARTS THAT CAME IN THE SHOP BUYOUT AND SOME PARTS THAT I GOT WHEN I BOUGHT A MAN'S STOCK OF PARTS FROM A BARN UP IN KANSAS.

36EL2450 IS BEING PUT TOGETHER RIGHT NOW. I AM TRYING TO GET IT CLOSER TO STOCK. I HAVE RIDDEN IT IN VARIOUS FORMS. SOMETIMES IT DISPLACES 61 INCHES AND SOMETIMES 88 CUBIC INCHES. WE HAVE LOTS OF FUN WITH SOME OF THE NEWER "MUSCLE" BIKES WHEN IT'S IN THAT FORM!

ENCLOSED IS A PHOTO. I COULDN'T FIND ANY 1936 DECALS THE LAST TIME I PAINTED 36EL1835, HENCE THE FATBOY DECALS ON THE TANKS. I HAVE SOME NOW, THOUGH. WILL SEND AN UPDATED PHOTO AS SOON AS I REPAINT IT. 36EL2450 IS PARTLY TOGETHER AT THIS TIME. WILL SEND PHOTO SOON."

"THANKS FOR THE 36EL INFORMATION. I PURCHASED MINE IN IOWA IN 1975. IT WAS A REALLY RATTY CHOPPER, BUT IT RAN. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED ON A REBUILD PROJECT, BUT EVEN THEN IT SOON BECAME OBVIOUS THAT GENUINE 1936 KNUCKLEHEAD PARTS WERE HARD TO COME BY, AND I WANTED A HARLEY TO RIDE DAILY. APPROXIMATELY TEN MONTHS LATER I ENDED UP WITH A GOOD LOOKING, GOOD RUNNING HARLEY THAT HAS SERVED ME WELL. I HAVE ALSO OWNED SEVERAL OTHER HARLEYS SINCE THEN. MY KNUCKLEHEAD IS ALL HARLEY-DAVIDSON, BUT THE PARTS

ON IT ARE FROM 1936 TO 1957. (i.e. - 1936 EL #1075 MOTOR WITH LATER MODEL KNUCK HEADS, LATER KNUCKLEHEAD FRAME AND TRANNY, 1947 GASTANKS, '52 PANHEAD FRONT END AND FENDER, 1957 PANHEAD REAR FENDER, AND MISCELLANEOUS PARTS FROM OTHER HARLEY YEARS.)

. I STILL HOPE SOMEDAY .TO RESTORE IT TO AT LEAST AN ALL-

KNUCKLEHEAD CONFIGURATION. IN THE MEANTIME I'LL CONTINUE TO RIDE IT. FEEL FREE TO-LI~T ME ON YOUR ROSTER IF YOU WOULD LIKE. I THOROUGHLY ENJOY LEARNING MORE ABOUT 36ELs."

"GREAT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR 36 PROJECT. I HAVE ONE WHICH I BOUGHT IN OKLAHOMA FOR SOME PARTS TO USE ON MY '38 THAT I WAS RIDING. THEN LATER I PACKED THE '36 ENGINE AWAY IN A BOX FOR AFEW YEARS. MY SON HAS BUILT UP A RESWONABLE RESTORATION WHICH HE RIDES. IT'S SERIAL NUMBER 36ELl112. IT WAS LAST REGISTERED IN OKLAHOMA IN 1955 BEFORE ITS PRESENT REGISTRATION.
